Women in politics: MPs

22% of UK MPs are women, 17% of the USA’s House of Representatives, 19% of France’s lower House and 22% of Canada’s.

In New Zealand the figure is 37%,  in the Netherlands  41% and in Germany it is 33%.

Rwanda has the highest percentage of women MPs (56%) followed by Sweden (46%) and South Africa (45%).

Other countries with the same percentage of women MPs as the UK (22%) are the Czech Republic, Eritrea, Latvia and Uzbekistan.

  • 30% of Local Councillors
  • 14% of Local Authority Leaders
  • 9% of High Court Judges
  • 8% of University Vice Chancellors
  • 58% of School Governors

La place des femmes dans la vie economique en Europe

Selon la fondation Robert Schuman : « Moins de 30% de femmes en moyenne occupent des postes à responsabilité. Dans les entreprises les plus importantes cotées en bourse, 11% des femmes en moyenne (27% en Suède et 24% en Finlande) siègent dans les conseils d’administration ou de surveillance des entreprises européennes et 3% seulement en sont les présidentes (15% en Bulgarie). Seule la Norvège en totalise plus de 42% grâce à une loi adoptée en 2004. »
